Caprice & Ella 701 | Terms of Enragement: Preston Pointe Your Luck to Newburyport Apartments (Part 1)

The episode picks up where Breaking Boiling Point 3: Stand Against Furious Fear left off as Ava is in a difficult situation. She was slated to live at Preston Pointe at the Inverness, but something went wrong, forcing her to move to Newburyport Apartments. She hopes to move by July 1st at the earliest. Breeanna, along with Sierra, Lyssa, Ashli, Tabitha, Baby Kenny, Caprice, and Ella, are planning to confront someone named Karen at the leasing office there. Rachael arrives with Traci sharing her day with Ava, mentioning a disappointing vet visit for their new cat, Denali. Rachael mentions on her way home, she witnesses a street fight at Preston Pointe and saw Breeanna’s car driving away from the scene.

In walks Breeanna, with a bucket of vegetarian Coney Dogs. Ava follows her into the kitchen and sees that her knuckles are swollen. She says "Oh, my God, Breeanna, you didn't KILL the property manager, and then go out for vegetarian Coney Dogs after picking up Sierra and Lyssa from day care did you?"

As they are relaxing in the living room, the Fort Wayne Police come for Breeanna. They are friends of the family, and feel terrible for arresting her, but charges are filed. Ava sticks a vegetarian Coney Dog in her mouth, as they take her away, joking. The officer tells Ava to hurry up and meet her at the police station with two hundred fifty dollars so she can be bailed out. Ava then asks Tabitha, Ashli, and Baby Kenny, to do her a favor. She needs them to buy milk and bail Breeanna out of jail. The children are shocked by this request.

Breeanna is in jail and her family comes to bail her out. Tabitha, Ava’s daughter, is the one who posts the bail because Baby Kenny is a minor even though Ashli is present. Breeanna is grateful but warns Tabitha that the bail money will come out of her allowance. Tabitha acknowledges that prison has hardened Breeanna and praises her for standing up for Ava, comparing it to an incident involving Ava in 1996.

While Jim is taking Ava to Newburyport Apartments, Ashli, Tabitha, and Baby Kenny go to bail Breeanna out of prison. Ashli and Tabitha wryly joke that they'd always thought that it would be one of the kids on the other side of the bars instead of Breeanna. Breeanna groans, then tells Tabitha to let the bailiff know about the bail arriving, then Tabitha takes her stepmother back home, where word indeed has gotten out about the incident at Preston Pointe at The Inverness.

Stories are flying about town, some as outrageous as claiming that Breeanna flattened six girls in a bowling alley or that Breeanna beat up several girls in a poker game. Karly, Traci, Rachael, Donna, Janice, and Arianna drop by also with more rumors the next morning. Even Ava comes back with news that she'd heard the gossip mill at the Stellhorn Road Target and Coldwater Road Walmart.

Karly confronts Breeanna about the rumors that she got into a fight with a property manager at Preston Pointe because Ava’s application was denied due to being short of $100. Breeanna confirms the rumors, stating that the property manager cheated Ava. Ava arrives home and then reveals to Breeanna that people at Target on Stellhorn, as well as Walmart on Coldwater Road and Kroger on Saint Joe Center Road are talking about Breeanna going on a drunken rampage and beating up six people. Traci, Rachael, Donna, and Donna's new girlfriend Janice, join the conversation, expressing their amusement at Breeanna’s adventure with Rachael playing the harmonica to the Roseanne theme. Ava then has a serious conversation with Sierra, Lyssa, Baby Kenny, Tabitha, and Ashli, about Breeanna’s jail time. She explains that Breeanna lost her cool and punched someone, which is usually a bad thing but sometimes can be justified. Jim is in shock over the development and now has to deal with his sister being in trouble now.

Jim then calls Breeanna into the back porch and tells Breeanna how upsetting this is for him as much it is for Ava. He has mixed feelings, however, about Breeanna's actions…on one hand, he's touched and grateful, but on the other hand, he wished she had thought first before jumping into Ava’s problem "like a mama bear protecting her cubs." Jim fears Ava’s problem with her income has been made more complicated by Breeanna's actions and by everyone knowing about it. Breeanna reassures Jim that according to many of the tale-bearers, the property manager is only one of several girls Breeanna beat up the night before.

Later Baby Kenny asks Breeanna why it is all right that adults sometimes lie, but not for kids. Ava, mistakenly thinks that Baby Kenny heard about his stepmother's being jailed, inadvertently tells him about it, only to discover that Baby Kenny didn't know about Breeanna's beating up the property manager at Preston Pointe. So, Breeanna has to tell Kenny (with Ashli, Tabitha, Sierra, Lyssa, Caprice, and Ella) about it, including the part about voucher discrimination. Kenny then asks about why some people think is "more" wrong to beat up a woman or trans man than a man or trans woman.

The plot thickens when Baby Kenny asks who Breeanna hit, and Breeanna reveals that it was the property manager at Preston Pointe at the Inverness. Ava has a heart-to-heart conversation with Baby Kenny, Ashli, and Tabitha about the incident involving Breeanna. She explains that Breeanna’s actions were a response to discrimination against their father due to his low income. Ava emphasizes that it’s never okay to resort to violence, but there are times when standing up for someone you love might blur the lines. Ava also addresses Baby Kenny’s question about gender and violence. She explains that it’s not okay for anyone, regardless of their gender, to hit anyone else. However, she acknowledges that societal norms and expectations can sometimes create double standards.

The conversation takes a turn when Ava brings up Rachael, hinting at some past incident or behavior that sets her apart. The plot continues to explore themes of family dynamics, justice, and societal norms, with a focus on the consequences of one’s actions and the complexities of moral judgment. The year being 2024, not 1994, suggests a change in societal attitudes and norms over time. The story continues to unfold with these complex themes at its core.
